Alaska Hickory Stick Golf

Eighteen golfers turn out for the first annual Historic Hickory Golf Tournament held Friday, September 6, 2013, at Fox Hollow Golf Course & Sports Dome in south Anchorage. They competed using antique hickory shaft golf clubs and reproduction gutta percha golf balls procured for the occasion by course co-owner Kurt Imig. The event honored the 1913 U.S. Open, when American Francis Ouimet, age 20, stunned Britons Harry Vardon and Ted Ray in a playoff win to popularize the game in the United States.
